ABOUT THE PROJECT
Background
Out & Equal is the premier organization working exclusively on LGBTQ workplace equality. Through their worldwide programs, Fortune 500 partnerships and annual Workplace Summit conference, they help LGBTQ people thrive and support organizations creating a culture of belonging for all.
The Out & Equal Global Hub is a unique portal for partners, bringing together real-time problem solving, best practice sharing, global ERG mapping and more. By connecting change agents for LGBTQ equality across companies and organizations, the Global Hub serves as a revolutionary resource helping companies learn from each other and more efficiently achieve effective D&I ROI.
Goals
The beta version of the Global Hub existed on two platforms that were only loosely integrated: a Firebase application which housed the resource documents, and an InVision community solution for discussion groups. The marriage of the two was kludgy, and the resources solution was limited in terms of its organization, search, and presentation.
Phase 1 of the project involved rewriting the Firebase application to repair functionality, add features, and improve security.
In Phase 2, Out & Equal contracted Logical Alternative to provide a unified and expanded solution with enhanced features such as site translation, the ability to search inside PDFs, more social tools and customizable company and member profiles, a new and improved ERG directory with greatly enhanced features, accessibility tools and support, the ability to create online and hybrid events and collect RSVPs or sell tickets as desired—in short, a version of the Hub that was improved in every way and offered many more tools for building community, and a robust resource library.

Proposed Solution
Migrate the existing databases and all resources, discussions, companies, members, ERG data, and other resources from both the Firebase and InVision solutions into a WordPress-based solution, research and integrate the many diverse plugins required to meet the desired feature set while allowing for future improvements, and write custom solutions for the resource library workflow to integrate with the new site.

Result
With over 800 users from 200+ companies, the Global Hub has rapidly grown since its launch in 2020. Since then, Logical Alternative has helped Out & Equal achieve a new level of improved user and administrative experience for their partners. Over the past year, we have been working to create a sustainable, expandable, maintainable solution that can serve Out & Equal for many years to come, while offering virtually unlimited options for enhancement, integration, improvement, and refinement.
